Letting go and letting God

Standard

Two years ago during an MRI for extensive migraines, a .5mm pineal cyst was found on the pineal gland region of my brain. My Pediatric Neurologist said these cysts can be routinely found on CT Scans and MRI’s and do not grow and do not cause symptoms. This was not the cause of my migraines, and I continued to improve.

For the last year I have had symptoms of head pain, pain in my sinus area, vision difficulties and dizziness. I saw my family Ear Nose and Throat doctor, Dr. Cornay, who treated me for a staph infection in my sinuses and extensive sinusitis. After a year on and off routine antibiotics, steroid therapy, and more, my symptoms not only continued but worsened. Every day activities such as working out, hanging out with friends, and even schoolwork became difficult.

I finally approached my ENT about the worsening symptoms, and he realized how debilitating they were becoming. He ordered an MRI of the brain and sinuses. On June 28, my results revealed that the .5mm pineal cyst had grown to 1.2cm. and was blocking the pineal gland of the brain and causing blockage of the cerebral spinal fluid in that area of my brain.

My pediatric neurologist was at a loss. He could offer no help or solutions as he has never, in his practice, seen a pineal cyst grow and cause blockages. My symptoms have worsened daily causing frequent black outs, terrible head pain, visual disturbances, along with nausea and vomiting.

We were led to Dr. Shahinian of the Skull Base Tumor Institute in Los Angeles. He is the number one leading neurosurgeon in the US for these type tumors. He removes the large cysts by using an endoscope behind the ear in a dime-size incision. The surgery is set for July 18. Although I am scared, I am ready.

My hope and prayer for this blog is to reach out to someone. Whether it be medically for someone who is in the same shoes I am or to encourage others to never take a single minute of their health for granted. No matter what this journey may bring, I am ready because I know that with love and support of my friends, family, and most importantly God, I will be in great hands.

This blog will be used to update inform and update friends and family during my journey.

Cast all of your worries on Him because He cares for you.
